5/26/2023 0 Comments Detune effect guitar![]() Wow what great tone man!!!! Awesome playing too-well I was in that same situation a few years back, AND for the same reasons: I wanted the VH detune. I also wanted warranty with an expensive pedal like that, so I bit the bullet and bought the H9, and used the one free algorithm you get with the pedal to 'buy' the MicroPitch algorithm. But the H9 has more options, and is smaller. ![]() Initially, I looked at a used Eventide Pitchfactor, which can be had for $250, if you're lucky. ![]() Even in a mono setting, it would sound bigger than any of the strict mono pedals out there. I got the PS-3 in the hopes of replacing two Hotone Harmony's with a single stereo pedal, as the PS-3 is the only Boss series pitch pedal that sums to mono. I enjoyed this one the most, notched settings on the dial are helpful.ĥ) Boss PS-3: sounded pretty good, but an absolute pain to set just right - no notched settings, small knobs in cramped interface, making it very difficult to get it just right. Lack of warmth, couldn't get rid of this one fast enough.Ĥ) Hotone Harmony: had a mix knob as opposed to the Pitchbox, my reason for getting it (and still budget). Unreliable - failed within a year.ģ) Digitech Luxe: this one sounded worse than the Pitchbox. Noisy (flanging artifact even when off!) No Mix capability. My pedal journey:ġ) Boss PS-5: it sounded very artificial to my ears, lack of warmth.Ģ) Mooer Pitchbox: was really excited about this one at first, until I learned to listen to what it did to my overall sound. I wanted to get as close to the -9/+9 of the Eventide H3000 used during that time-frame. After experiencing the H9 MicroPitch algorithm in person, all those budget pedals now seem like toys to me.įrom the get-go my point of reference was the Van Halen live sound of 1991-1995. Ditto with the budget pedals for this sound. ![]() It looks like a tomato, smells like a tomato, is spotless on the outside. For those looking for this sound, consider this: Buying a budget detune pedal is like buying a greenhouse tomato in the middle of winter, labeled as 'farm fresh'. As much as I love the detune sound, I should have just gone out and bought the real thing the first time, Eventide (H9 or PitchFactor) - there's just no contest. if the Helix improves on that substantially, then I might change my tune, so to speak.I tried to go the budget route. The Drop is a nice pedal, but it does have a slight latency, albeit small and manageable. Also interested to see what sort of latency it produces, if any. There's a limit to how much re-engineering I'm willing to do just to drop a half step here and there. Hope it doesn’t push some things over the edge, but whatever happens it must be a trade off against other FX.Įxactly.I'm curious how much will have have to be sacrificed to use polyphonic pitch shifting with my existing patches. If it comes to the choice of losing half of the Helix to a single reverb effect, or plugging an external unit int the stereo FX loop, then I would buy a unit dedicated to doing that one job alone.īecause so many users have requested poly pitch to be added, it seems like it is about to happen, but at what cost in DSP remains to be seen. Well, I would imagine that poly pitch shifting is going to be a hungry beast.įor example, many folks on here ask why the Helix reverbs are not as polished and/or complex as those in the Strymon Big Sky box? That’s because to create those sounds it takes the same amount of DSP as a single one of the 2 chips in the Helix.
